QUINCY -- Many colleges and universities are identifying a lag among their sophomores, juniors and seniors and the dates they submit their financial aid information.

High school seniors and incoming freshmen generally are targeted by guidance and admissions counselors to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, as early as possible. Without this accountability, many older students delay completing their FAFSA and risk missing deadlines and losing possible financial aid.

"We still have students for our current school year that haven't filled out the FAFSA yet," said Patti Mathieson, Culver-Stockton College assistant director of financial aid. "Juniors and seniors are putting it off more than they should."
